Biography

Tom Curtin, Consulting Faculty Member of the Executive Business Institute, specializes in teaching and developing programs for senior client executives and IBM business partners on various areas of business strategy and information technology strategy and management.

In twenty-one years as an executive educator he has developed broad expertise in case method teaching , lecture/discussion programs, and executive facilitation. His teachings in the Institute's various strategy offerings have resulted in numerous custom follow-on sessions in such industries as government, financial services, higher education, transportation, and manufacturing.

Before joining the Executive Business Institute Mr. Curtin developed and taught at the IBM Information Systems Management Institute. He specialized in project management and software engineering techniques, legacy system maintenance, and quality control programs for information systems managers from IBM's largest customers.

Mr. Curtin also had ten years' experience in the information technology function of one of IBM's major manufacturing divisions. Before leaving that division he managed a staff that developed and maintained financial applications for IBM's largest manufacturing site, enabling it to upgrade from batch to online database technology.

Mr. Curtin originally joined IBM as a chemical engineer. Prior to that he had been a captain in the army where he taught advanced technical programs to officers at the U. S. Army Engineer School.

Earlier he co-authored the book Computer Operations Management (Van Nostrand-Reinhold, 1989).

Mr. Curtin holds a bachelor of science degree from Fordham University and a master of business administration degree from the University of Connecticut, where he was elected to the national MBA honor society Beta Gamma Sigma. He studied case method teaching at Harvard Business School under the late Professor C. Roland Christensen. He has completed executive programs at Harvard, the Darden School of the University of Virginia, and the Wharton School.
