Google "Aligning Strategy" and you will get over 30,000 hits. Combine that statistic with my statement in an earlier post that "Alignment" consistently makes it to the top of the lists of issues of interest to CIOs, in most surveys, in most years; and you have powerful evidence of the ongoing interest in it!
A few years ago I wondered for a while if this interest really would continue. There could have been a negative backlash in the wake of the now-famous HBR article "IT Does not Matter"[Nicholas Carr, HBR, May 2003], and the same author's book Does IT Matter? [HBS Press] published a year later. By now probably most IT execs are aware of the strong positions advanced by Nick Carr, that IT has lost/outgrown all the strategic value once attributed to it. What backlash? If anything we have been seeing the opposite reaction!
